The area was settled in the 1840s and incorporated in 1867. The Made River and Lake Erie Railroad had a railroad line through the area with a water stop station in Belle Center which helped with its growth. Its name came from its location between Bellefontaine and Kenton, Ohio. (Historically, the village of Belle Center’s name has also been spelled Belle Centre, Bellecenter and Bellecente.) The Belle Center Public Library is one of two independent libraries in Logan County.
Located in northern Logan County, the village has under 1,000 residents. Older farm homes on acreage as well as newer two-story homes in subdivisions can be found in the area.
Transportation
The village of Belle Center is located near State Routes 68 and 33. The closest highway is Interstate 75.
Hospitals
The village has one doctor’s office. Mary Rutan Hospital is located in nearby Bellefontaine.
Shopping
There are a few businesses in the “downtown” area including a few restaurants, hardware store and grocery. More shopping opportunities are available in Bellfontaine or further away in Kenton, Ohio.
Recreation
Indian Lake State Park is near Belle Center with a lake and camping. Bellefontaine also has campgrounds including Mountain Lake and Ohio State Eagles. Cherokee Hills Golf Course and Liberty Hills Golf Club are located in Bellefontaine. Zane Shawnee Caverns and South Wind Park is located in Bellefontaine.
