5 Weeks Before Moving Day
Start looking into child care options, if needed
Choose your moving options and obtain quotes
Begin sorting out those items that you do not plan to move
Plan a date for garage sale or donations to charity
4 Weeks Before Moving Day
Check school enrollment requirements and transfer records
Get quotes for new home and auto insurance
Research banking options and establish new accounts if necessary
Plan how you will arrange furniture in your new residence and make a list of things to buy
Schedule pickup and delivery dates with your moving company and arrange storage, if needed
3 Weeks Before Moving Day
Contact utility companies in new city to schedule “start of service”
Make travel arrangements and have car serviced, if driving
Notify post office, magazine subscriptions, credit card, etc of change of address
Gather records from doctors and dentists and refill prescriptions
2 Weeks Before Moving Day
Notify current utilities of disconnect date and new forward address
Secure lodging for last nights in current city if needed
Obtain veterinary records, including health certificates and rabies inoculations, and get new licenses
Arrange for pet transportation, via car or air
1 Week Before Moving Day
Defrost freezer and get rid of perishable food you won’t eat before moving
Label cord arrangements for TV and electronics
Arrange for someone to help watch children on moving day
The Day Before Moving Day
Pack your luggage and anything you are transporting yourself (valuables, plants, documents, etc)
Pack all household items except those you absolutely need
Drain oil and gas from your power equipment
MOVING DAY!
Check through the house and attic to make sure nothing was missed before moving company leaves
Leave house keys, garage door opener and manuals for new owners
Shut and lock windows
Turn off water and light switches
Lower furnace or raise air conditioner temperature

After the Move...
